Restoration photos of my CP23
« on: March 06, 2017, 11:56:26 PM »
As promised here are a few before, and after photos of the restoration, and upgrade work in progress on my CP23. I purchased the boat in the middle of December and began work after the first of the year putting me about eight weeks into this project. So far so good, except for rainy weather that is causing us to run about two weeks behind schedule. Overall I'm happy with the progress considering that we went through every square inch of this boat cutting out, patching, and re-glassing anything that showed any remote sign of rot including the inside of every locker and compartment. Every component that wasn't glassed in was removed and re-finished in the shop allowing us to properly clean, prep, and paint sections otherwise difficult to get to. At present we are working on finishing up the installation of the new electrical, and air conditioning systems, and starting the pain staking task of buffing out the exterior. Our new target date is now mid April. I'll post more photos as we make progress.

Very nice!  What did you use to refinish the teak in the cabin?  How about the white side walls, what did you use for paint?  I'm planning to do some refinishing as well. I'm considering using Howard's Restore-a-finish on the teak based on the results posted by another CP owner.

Paul, sorry for the delay in my response to your questions! It's been a busy two weeks and haven't had much time to write. We sanded all the teak down to bare wood being careful not to sand through the veneer and applied five coats of Epifanes varnish. All the painted surfaces were cleaned sanded and double coated with Interlux Brightside. I know very little about the Howard's product that you mentioned other than hearing of some folks being happy with the results.

Thanks Charlie, hopefully I'll get her back in the marina by the 31st. Looking forward to logging quite a few miles beneath this little ladies keel.
Cheers

Great work,  I am glad to see it can be done.
I just aquired a 79 cp23, and the entire V berth is rotted, and I will be doing a lot of work, maybe not as nice as you did, but I will be sailing the little lady as soon as possible. It's only money right?
