Totally agree that the boat did not actually lift up off of the trailer, just thinking enough lift and sideways windage to cause it to slip over the lee bunk so that it continued over and pivoted at the bow where she is still attached until the keel was on the ground. The trailer, though it could have been moved some afterwards, is clearly not even close to parallel to the lay of the boat.. Even if the board broke the supports for it could have dug themselves into the hull and woulda thought the trailer would have moved significantly as a result. We'll know for sure soon and what we also will know for sure is that the present owner of that 23 will never leave her the same way again. To be fair it was a freak storm and not hurricane season! Mostly once fixed it's a new playmate for Saga!

....and it's kinda fun to ponder such things!

So I got down to the marina today.  I got a look at the poor compac that went off of the trailer.  The starboard bunk did slip and bend and then the boat fell over and went forward. The winch strap kept the bow near the roller.  The winch strap almost busted.

The keel and hull looked okay but there was some damage on the boat near the wash board.  Attached is a picture.

My boat went in without incident.  It looks like a bomb went off near my marina.  A lot of BIG trees are over.  The roof of the packing company almost blew off and about 1/3 of the boats at my marina were damaged.  The hail was so bad some boats look like they were sand blasted.

My old slip had a rather tragic owner beside her.  He is a nice guy but he has bad luck.  He has lost engines off of his boat and there is always some issue.  Well, during the storm his boat slid over and broke a pile on.  If my boat had been in her slip she would have been damaged and maybe sunk.  I am in a new slip now with several slips between myself and the other boat (thank God, that always worried me).

Any way, despite the 20-25 knot gusts my mast went up without issue and I got off of the boat at high tide. This was one of the smoother launches I have had.

I really hope the other Compac can be salvaged.  Sorry that I don't have more pictures but my phone wouldn't let me take more pictures, my memory is full (I know how that feels sometimes).  I may try to grab more later on.

So, by looking at the hull number it appears to be a 1997.  It still haven't moved and there has been no activity around it.  I wonder what the owner is going to do about this.

Clarification about the picture...That is shot under the tarp.  That crack is pretty long and it runs along the area where the cockpit combings are.  I wonder if there is further damage and if she can be repaired.

I feel so bad for the owner.  I wish that I could help them out!  Too bad a few of us couldn't get together to help get her back on the trailer.

Heave: I can't help but wonder if the owner even knows that his/ her boat is flipped over.
Perhaps a little detective work is in order, Watson.

More than likely the lack of activity is because of an insurance claim determination.

I would second the suggestion on the insurance claim.  Hopefully they will get him back to normal quick.  Then again, in reality, we all know that insurance companies drag their feet and he has probably lost this season due to the damage.  Pathetic and sad!

I would third that suggestion as I am dealing with an insurance claim on my camper in Maine....which I'm selling to raise funds for my SunCat.

Grrr, take pictures, get estimate, argue with adjuster, get work done, get camper back into campground to be listed for sale.
I'm still in the ...argue with adjuster... phase.
