While I cannot offer comment on any of the proposed venues suggested by our most highly esteemed host, I can attend to the fact that at the last (first) CBMWG, an incredible time was had by all even though I was unjustly accused of drinking the last of a kind of beer that I don't quite remember. I was tried by a jury of my peers in a court of law of the United States of America, paid off and/or threatened said peers and was promptly acquitted of any wrong doing. So there, ya filthy animals!!
Looking forward to this gathering...working on the admiral. Maybe I could lie and say we're going to an outlet mall!

Hrm....Bob23, I do believe that it was an Edmond Fitzgerald.

I have now thought more about that situation.  Maybe it is best NOT to be the person who drank the last beer when said beer was named after a ship that sunk, killing the entire crew.  That COULD be bad luck.  LOL

Wow guys, this has been a crazy few months.  To top it off my father had a bad fall about a month ago.  He broke his arm as a result of the fall but that wasn't the big thing.  Because of the fall it was discovered that he had lung cancer.  He also has cancer  on his hip.  The day before Christmas Eve he fell, again, and now he has cracked his hip.  He stubbornly refused to go to the hospital until today.  Today he was admitted into the hospital.

It is too early to see what the prognosis is.

Anyway, I am hoping that things will go okay and I will make the gathering.

I would ask the host to post okay hotels in the area just in case someone decides to stay.

Not sure if my wife will make it.  It all depends on her schedule.

Um... I never looked at it like that, Matt so thank you. Fortunately for all of us, I am not the least bit superstitious.
I know about dealing with aging parents and I of course will keep you and your dad in my prayers. And I also have firsthand experience with stubborn aging parents. Here's to hoping for the best, in whatever form that best will take. We've dealt with quite sudden departures and the long drawn out ones.
Hotel posts are welcome so maybe the Chief Instigator of the CBWMG will add a few to this thread.

Yeah.....The drinking the last beer was just a quick thought but it seemed amusing.  I do have a superstitious side but I doubt that this would really throw up any red flags.

Older parents is tough.  My Dad, though not tall, was a mountain of a man.  He was tough as nails and was extremely able.  It is hard to watch him at 73 being so frail.  I miss when I was able to go fishing or hunting with my Dad.  Watching your parents get old sucks.

I am looking forward to another Compac gathering.  I hope that we can get some new faces in the mix.  Eventually I would like to get a few of us over to Tangier Island during the summer.

FYI, not all hands went down with the Fitzgerald. One of the crew survives. His name is Rich Wills. He was an engineer on this  ship.  He came down with appendicitis the morning the fitz left port, and was left behind in the hospital. Luck has it's moments.

Just call me Rich!
Heave: It does indeed suck. But loosing them in an instant robs us of the chance to be there through the final days. Count yourself blessed that you can be there. I didn't have that chance with my dad or father in law. Either way, life is not for sissies!

Hey Heave, I m so sorry for your father's situation. We have had both situations with both the sudden and long drawn out deaths of our parents. I am not sure which is easier, though watching the  condition of both my mom and Susan's dad with their dementia robbing them of their humanity before their deaths has led us to believe the sudden death scenario, though maybe more difficult for us, was kinder to the one who passed. Bob's comment on the ability to say goodbye to someone should remind us to be always prepared for someones passing by living fully today as tomorrow is not guaranteed. We must make sure we are ready to live for as Bob's signature states "All men die, few really live."

With that in mind, it is a fact that living requires effort and though it will be a three hour trip for us and longer for many others, the CBMWG 2.0 is about celebrating the connections we have made here by owning these small craft. it was said at last year's event that it is amazing one could just meet someone for the first time yet feel we have known them for a long time. That speaks volumes about the "real" person nature of folks here!

Do take time to review the menus and both venues proposed. Susan and I are good with either. If folks are spending the night then we can do both if ya just can't make up your mind!

As far as places to stay, there are no motels in Deltaville i would recommend but here are a couple closer to the venues proposed and a B&B in Deltaville:

http://pilothouseinn.tripod.com  - Kinda simple simon, sixties feel, inexpensive, friendly staff.
http://www.wpinesmotel.com - more amenities, little nicer, front desk person was rude by phone (go figure)

Harrow House B&B, Deltaville, Va. Located at 167 Lover's Lane, Deltaville, Va. 23043. 804-776-9616 or Cell 804-694-7338

Both Kilmarnock and Urbanna are also near by and have several possibilities.

I have included the website for the museum in Deltaville which is quite nice and worth visiting. We plan to visit though we have been there more than once.
http://www.deltavillemuseum.com

It appears we all will have much to discuss with many changes since last year, but it is nice to know that some things will be the same, as Bob and i will be trying to drink that last beer!

I plan to be there, as long as I'm not deported by then.  I will be paying in pesos that I obtained from El Chapo before he was rudely detained.

Rag Baggers eh....guess it will be the Rag Baggers vs Stink Potters huh?!  Regardless, will be an epic gathering of legends in our own minds.  :)

Well Susan is wondering bout all the other ladies. She is planning to attend, but with the caveat that if all "Bros" then she will stay here and go get in trouble with her girlfriends. The only other undecided issue is where? Pedro knows both places as do we but do check the websites and menus. I would pick Merrior just cuz but Willabys is also a good bet if folks are not into the menu at Merrior which is also a little pricier.

T minus 28 days and counting..........
