Raising the mast
« on: September 27, 2017, 09:04:02 PM »
Well I've already having troubles with the mast. It seems simple enough. You are securing the jib halyard to the gin pole and attaching boom vang to end of halyard. Tie off jib halyard to mast and crank on the boom vang and it should come up. Bent my gin pole with very little effort. I can push mast up and nothing is holding it down. I've sent some pictures to Al hope he can help me out

Also will call Gerry

Well as usual Al came to the rescue.  Told me what to do and it was easy.

Well, as you now know, if there is ANY resistance in raising the mast--STOP.

It takes very little pull on the block/tackle to bend the heck out of the gin pole.  If you don't stop then, the next failure point is the tang will break off.

Been there, done that, got the bill.
