Just Bought a Compac 27 Hull #1 1984-5
« on: April 28, 2017, 10:30:41 PM »
The boat is in great shape except the AC is out.
It was a 6000 BTU under the starboard  cabin seat.
I was told by the old owner that original  is not made anymore and replacements will not fit into that location.
It needs to bu upgrade to a 9000-12000 heat pump.
Has anyone had this problem and a good solution

Thanks

David

Hey David:
Congratulations on your 'new' C-27, especially Hull #1!

I don't have AC but have seen a couple of C-27's that do along with heaters.  Some one here on the blog will probably have some advice on an installation.

Did you replace the rudder?

Smooth sailing.

regards charlie

Congratulations David on your new purchase.
I installed  Flagship Marines FM9R 9000btu model with electric heat. I put it under the V berth 2 years ago and have been very happy with it. The only issue I've had is the pump loosing prime when healing over but that has been resolved by putting as large as possible loop in the hose from thru hull to the pump. If your interested in going that route I can send you some pictures.

Someone put theirs under the stove and posted pics.  I feel confident that it was on this site (as a 66 yr old can.  :-0)

I just had the boat hauled. The rudder is fine bottom is great just needs paint.
The only issue I have aside from the AC is the roller furling.

It is a Hood continuous line, it is very hard to unfurl , but easier to roll back up.
I flushed the bottom bearing, it got better, I need to do the same to the top try moving the sail higher up.
Last time I was on the boat it was blowing 35+ and i did not mess with the head sail.

Really a well made boat, love the bronze hatches and a delight to own.
Have just had it out 2 times. Plan on getting to know it in 3 weeks when the bottom is done.
It would be nice to have it cool, at the slip, still looking for best option on AC repair.

Thanks

Pretty sure when I talked to Hutchins about installing one in mine, they said they put the new ones under the seat, I thought he said port side ahead of the galley, but I really don't recall the specifics.  It was mounted to the underside of the plywood lid thing under the seat, so you could pull it out for service.
I decided refrigeration was more important, so I added that and went with a window A/C in the companionway while at the dock.  5000 btu freezes me out and fits in the dock box when I leave to sail.  In early June in Tampa it got up to 106 inside the boat without it.  ...That's the latest in the spring I've stayed.
