Ocean Sunfish on Buzzards Bay
« on: September 13, 2017, 02:31:51 PM »
My wife and I watched an ocean sunfish swimming lazily past us about half a mile out from our mooring. At first we thought it was a shark or a small dolphin or whale, but the dorsal fin and stubby body gave it away. We stayed far enough away so as not to disturb it, but it totally ignored us as it was probably feeding on the millions of baitfish that have invaded the Bay. We don't see these distinctive fish very often here so it was dumb luck to have crossed its path. Hopefully no jet ski's or motorboats came near it as it feeds a foot or less from the water's surface.

Here's a link to the video we shot (hope it works).

Cool.  Have run into a bunch on CC Bay.  Basking sharks too.  Out in front of Sandy Neck
