Racing class?
« on: April 18, 2014, 07:47:37 PM »
I'm in the process of buying a new Legacy (yippee), and trying to find out what class we would be in if we decide to participate in any races. I can't find a classification for the Legacy. Thanks a heap!

no class unless you have a fleet of legacys. You will race phrf or performance handicap racing formula, do a google search for the phrf ratings, I would think you will be in the well into the 300 range (which is pretty slow). You will be grouped with the slower boats but you will still be at the back of the pack. You win or lose on corrected time.  Best of luck.

From PHRF New England (http://www.phrfne.org/page/567):

CP 19/2: 279
CP 23/2: 249
CP 27: 225

Unfortunately no listing for the Legacy or the CP 16. Suspect 300 is pretty close. As I tell people about my 19: she's built for comfort, not for speed....

Thanks Wes,
I'll do a search for the PHRF. Years ago I sailed/raced a San Juan 21 up in Sanford, FL and there was a sizable fleet up there. We also had a few of Victoria 18's (?). I'm hoping to see how she does over the next few weeks against a friend's Calalina 22. From what I have read in a few postings, there are a bunch of little boats out there that our Legacy might hold a candle to. We'll keep you posted....as my general attitude is ".... two or more boats on a body of water constitutes a race...". At 65, my biggest race is a race against time!
