Reefing System
« on: March 04, 2017, 07:49:22 AM »
Can anyone comment on how well the reefing system works on the Legacy? Is it jiffy reefing? Are any modifications recommended?

Thanks,

Neil

Is a jiffy system, works just fine. Didn't need any mods either. I did add a block to the outhaul on the foot of the main sheet and a clamcleat instead of the standard horn cleat, much handier.  In heavier wind I always reduce the jib ( I have three) before reefing, Legacy is better balanced using smaller jibs. Still too much power ok then reef the main. Love my Legacy "Loki"

How does she sail under main alone?

Sails well with the main, slow of course. I tested my new 135% jib on lake Havasu a few weeks ago and was really happy with the extra HP. A few times gusts heeled Loki enough to really make things interesting, but never felt overwelmed. Weather helm rapidly increases, even with the larger rudder craft rudder. Now I've got a whisker pole coming to improve downwind preformance.
Have you got your Legacy yet?

Thanks for the info, Loki2

Don't have it yet... probably early April.

Havasu is great this time of year.  I had done several HPC conventions, while Sean and 'Jo were organizing them when living on the West Coast.  Great times and met many fellow pocket cruisers from all over. Have stayed at both Nautical Inn and LBR...nice conveniences for sailors. Too far to go now.

Were you there the year we built the Bolger dinghy for the Sea Scouts?

Have you considered going to Gary O's Lake Pleasant Regatta? Already happened this year, but it has a growing following.

I'm camping at lake pleasant right now and have rented a slip for a month. Great facilities, fun lake to sail. Reserved two months next year and also joined the yacht club.watched the races last weekend, wind didn't cooperate much but that didn't dampen spirits at the barbecue really friendly bunch of sailors. Gonna race Loki in a few weeks.

Yep, Ken.   Wrinkleboat Ran-Tan Lake Pleasant, Leukemia Cup, same place same time.

Regret that I never made it to that event. Every time it came around each year I could not get away for the trip over and back.
