CP 25 listing to starboard
« on: May 06, 2008, 05:48:29 PM »
OK, here you go… a little discussion topic. I have a CP 25 which is new to me. First of all I love the boat and so far I have been able to sail her in heavy and light winds and I have been extremely pleased with the way she handles and the speed she achieves even in light winds. I have noticed when the boat is at the dock and tied off for the night with all of my gear off the boat that she lists to starboard an inch or so. I also notice that when down below if the weight of my body is port of center and I move to starboard of center (does that make sense) the boat really canters over to starboard… so much so that it almost throws you off balance. This CP 25 is equipped with and outboard motor to port and the fuel tank is to starboard with about10 gallons of fuel, the galley is to starboard, the head is to port and has a porti-potty, and the water tank as well as the hot water heater is center line. I have a few items stored under the starboard settee and I have the shore power cord, one battery, a small spare anchor with rope rode in the starboard lazarette. I will also add that my bilge is dry except for just a little bit of water that the pump can’t get out.  Is this just a simple weight ratio problem or is there some deeper problem I am looking at here? Should I be able to just add some sort of ballast to port to level her out? I would appreciate any and all comments about this. Thanks in advance…

Interesting. I have no clue but maybe posting this question on the 25' section of this site might get you more responses.

Thanks for the reply Bob... I did talk with Com-Pac and Gerry responded that he has heard of this with a few 25's and that it was just a ballest situation. There was nothing major to worry about. Since the boat was new to me I wanted to be sure. I did some rearranging below this weekend and she is now sitting very level. Great weekend, good wind and beautiful weather. I wasn't sure where to put this post as the 25 forum is sometimes slow to reply. Thanks again for your reply.
