Hey Heave, I m so sorry for your father's situation. We have had both situations with both the sudden and long drawn out deaths of our parents. I am not sure which is easier, though watching the condition of both my mom and Susan's dad with their dementia robbing them of their humanity before their deaths has led us to believe the sudden death scenario, though maybe more difficult for us, was kinder to the one who passed. Bob's comment on the ability to say goodbye to someone should remind us to be always prepared for someones passing by living fully today as tomorrow is not guaranteed. We must make sure we are ready to live for as Bob's signature states "All men die, few really live."
With that in mind, it is a fact that living requires effort and though it will be a three hour trip for us and longer for many others, the CBMWG 2.0 is about celebrating the connections we have made here by owning these small craft. it was said at last year's event that it is amazing one could just meet someone for the first time yet feel we have known them for a long time. That speaks volumes about the "real" person nature of folks here!
Do take time to review the menus and both venues proposed. Susan and I are good with either. If folks are spending the night then we can do both if ya just can't make up your mind!
As far as places to stay, there are no motels in Deltaville i would recommend but here are a couple closer to the venues proposed and a B&B in Deltaville:http://pilothouseinn.tripod.com
- Kinda simple simon, sixties feel, inexpensive, friendly staff.http://www.wpinesmotel.com
- more amenities, little nicer, front desk person was rude by phone (go figure)
Harrow House B&B, Deltaville, Va. Located at 167 Lover's Lane, Deltaville, Va. 23043. 804-776-9616 or Cell 804-694-7338
Both Kilmarnock and Urbanna are also near by and have several possibilities.
I have included the website for the museum in Deltaville which is quite nice and worth visiting. We plan to visit though we have been there more than once.http://www.deltavillemuseum.com
It appears we all will have much to discuss with many changes since last year, but it is nice to know that some things will be the same, as Bob and i will be trying to drink that last beer!
